Private Label Supplement MOQ Guide: What 200-Bottle Minimums Really Mean for Your Brand

TL;DR

Short answer: A 200-bottle minimum means you can launch one private-label SKU without funding a full production run. The minimum is set by formulation status, dosage form and packaging, not by ingredient cost. Stock ready-to-fill formulas start at 200 bottles, standard OEM runs at 1,000–3,000, and bulk custom ODM at 5,000 or more.

  • MOQ is set by formulation status, dosage form and packaging — not by manufacturer mood.
  • Stock private label formulas can start at 200 bottles; standard OEM tiers run 1,000–3,000; bulk custom ODM starts at 5,000+.
  • Low-MOQ trials exist so brands validate demand before committing capital — use them as a test, not a strategy.
  • Always ask for the minimum per SKU, what the tier includes, and the lead time in writing.

Why manufacturers have MOQs at all

Every production run consumes fixed resources before a single bottle is filled: raw materials are released from quarantine, the batch formula is pulled and checked against the master manufacturing record, gummy depositors or softgel machines are cleaned and calibrated, bottle and label materials are staged, and the batch is tested before release. Below a certain volume those fixed costs make the unit price unreasonable — for you and for the factory. The minimum order quantity is simply the point where the economics of a real, documented, cGMP-compliant run start to work.

That is also why an MOQ is a quality signal. A factory that promises unlimited micro-batches is usually skipping the very controls — raw material identity testing, in-process checks, finished lot testing — that make private label safe to sell on Amazon or in retail. At NutraForge we hold every batch to an independent ISO 17025 third-party lab COA covering actives, heavy metals and microbiology before release. That standard has a floor, and the floor is what the MOQ pays for.

The four drivers of your MOQ

1. Formulation status

A stock, ready-to-fill formula (already validated and stability-tested) costs almost nothing to set up, which is what makes a 200-bottle trial tier possible. A custom formula requires lab work, new raw material qualifications and stability studies — so it demands volume (typically 5,000+ units) to amortize development.

2. Dosage form & line economics

Gummy lines, softgel encapsulation, liquid filling and powder sachets each have different changeover and tooling profiles. A gummy formula with printed mold shapes may need more units than a straightforward powder tub. Product-level tiers on our Products Hub reflect these differences per SKU.

3. Packaging & labeling

Amber PET is stocked and cheap; custom frosted glass, child-resistant CRC caps, foil hot-stamping and specialty droppers carry minimums of their own. Choosing standard packaging keeps your entry MOQ low and your unit price predictable.

4. Compliance & documentation

Every batch carries finished-product testing, label proofing against FDA Supplement Facts rules, and traceability records. Those are per-run costs. See exactly what a compliant release includes on our Quality & Compliance page.

Reading a tiered price list

Reputable manufacturers publish tier pricing: the unit price steps down as volume steps up. Our product cards show real tiers, for example:

SKU Trial tier Next tier Bulk tier
Biotin + Collagen Gummies 200+ bottles 1,000+ bottles 2,000+ bottles
Ashwagandha & GABA Gummies — 1,000+ bottles 3,000+ bottles
Liquid Chlorophyll Drops 500+ bottles — 2,000+ bottles
Magnesium Glycinate Gummies 500+ bottles — 2,000+ bottles

Premium actives and dosage forms carry higher entry tiers — that is normal economics, not a penalty. Compare the full matrix on the Products Hub.

Why a 200-bottle trial tier exists

Most brands kill a product idea with either too much capital up front or too little data. The 200-bottle tier solves both: you launch a real, fully compliant private label run — with your label, your COA, FBA-ready — at a capital level a serious side business can carry. Then you let sell-through data decide the second order, and step into the 1,000+ or 5,000+ band when demand is proven.

Turnaround on RFQ

The 15-day private label pipeline — formula & design (Day 1–2), FDA label proofing (Day 3–5), GMP cleanroom filling (Day 6–12), assay release with FBA delivery (Day 13–15) — is detailed on our OEM Customization page. Fully custom ODM runs are longer and quoted case by case.

Five questions to ask before you sign

1. Is this MOQ per SKU or per order, and can I mix flavors?

Minimums are quoted per SKU. Stock formulas from the same line can sometimes be coordinated — get it in writing before you plan a mixed first order.

2. What exactly does the tier price include?

Ask for a written breakdown: formula, standard packaging, label design, testing, freight. If COA testing or label proofing is a surprise add-on, the "low MOQ" was marketing, not economics.

3. Which facility and which dosage forms does the quality claim cover?

A cGMP certificate is only meaningful when its scope covers your exact dosage form at the facility that will run your batch. Our registration details are disclosed under mutual NDA, and every batch ships with its ISO 17025 COA.

4. What is the real lead time, including label proofing?

Stock private label runs at NutraForge ship in 15 days because labels are proofed before production starts. Confirm whether your quote assumes label approval on Day 1 or Day 10.

5. Can I see a sample COA from a recent batch in my dosage form?

A real COA names methods, specs and results. Ours is available on the Quality & Compliance page, and the full batch COA accompanies every consignment.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 200-bottle private label MOQ real?

Yes. Stock, ready-to-fill formulas such as Biotin + Collagen gummies start at a 200-bottle trial tier. Some premium or dosage-specific SKUs carry 500–1,000 minimums per their published tiers, and bulk custom ODM programs start at 5,000+ bottles.

Can I order less than the MOQ to test the product?

Production orders below MOQ are not supported, but a free sample kit is available through the inquiry form — request it before committing to a production run.

Is the MOQ calculated per SKU or per order?

Per SKU — each formula, dosage form and packaging configuration carries its own setup. Your written quote states the exact minimum for each selected product.

What is included in a private label MOQ quote?

Tiered unit pricing, standard packaging options, free label design drafts with FDA Supplement Facts panel proofing, per-batch COA testing and FBA-ready labeling. Your quote itemizes every line so nothing is hidden.

Why can private label production be done in 15 days?

Because the formula is already stocked and validated, packaging is pre-sourced, and labels are proofed before Day 1. Custom formulations take longer and are quoted case by case.

Do you ship private label orders directly to Amazon FBA?

Yes — direct to US/EU Amazon FBA with FNSKU barcode tags attached and customs clearance handled by our freight desk.
